Well, that's interesting
-Cincinnati took Freel off the DL, and brought up Kearns, so both of them are now on the team
-Colorado claimed Anderson Machado off waivers
-Washington claimed Kenny Kelly off waivers
-Jason Romano refused free agency and has left the Reds' organization

So we gain 2 of our opening day roster players, but lose 3 prospects. Kelly had a lot of promise and didn't really suck but we had no room for him. Romano was just a place holder. But Machado's loss I do feel. He's behind the other position players, and had some trouble adjusting to the outfield, so his current value was limited. But in the minors, he had stolen over 70 bases last year. The boy had some skills in that department. While it was a longshot to happen, I had some fantasy where Freel and Machado would be the tag-team #1 & 2 guys on the roster, just controlling the bases and bagging over 100 bases total. Imagine that; a fierce basestealing threat by the top 2 guys of the order. And then Lopez, who's no slouch himself, could bat third and provide some extra speed himself. Because, besides Freel, baserunning isn't our strongest suit, and that makes me sad. Imagine a double steal late in the game. How cool would that be? If we have problems getting guys home and moving the runners along, then maybe they can just move themselves along.

Oh well. Who did I think we were, Florida? That's not our game, baby. We're swinging for the fences. There's nothing finer than watching a ball hit into the stands...except maybe a well-needed steal to keep the inning going.

Machado had no room to grow on this team anyway. We have Lopez, Freel, Aurilia, and Olmedo who can play middle infield, and they're all ahead of Machado. Wasn't meant to be, Andy. Hope Colorado treats you well and turns you into the superstud you have the potential of being.

If you wash out as a nobody prospect, then at least I can't feel that bad that Cincy let you go.

it seems that we have a glut of positional players. So, I guess they made the moves that made sense to them.. I mean really, are any of those 3 really that bad of loss? Machado possibly? But Romano, I dont really see him ever doing much. Not sure about Kenny Kelly really. Bowden is a pretty smart guy, so maybe Kelly will be our new "hey that guy used to play for the Reds" player that goes on to do big things, like Paul Konerko.
Or maybe he wont..

so we have Freel and Kearns back.. thats probably good. maybe?
